Why Bangkok

I’ve always been drawn to Bangkok, not just for its food, but for its energy. The city buzzes with life, the traffic a constant symphony of chaos and order (I say this as someone from India, so that’s saying a lot!). And then there are the Thai people! A mix of brusque and gentle, curt and endlessly polite, always ready with a smile and that signature bow.

I can’t get enough of saying Khap Khun Kha with a little bow in return, whether I’m thanking a driver for stopping to let me cross or appreciating someone at a café. There’s a sense of thoughtfulness everywhere you look: in the way tiny family-run eateries are kept spotless, in the attention to detail at hostels and hotels, in the way every interaction feels warm and genuine.

And there’s something else about Thailand that makes it unique, its matriarchal streak. Women here have long held a central role in families, businesses, and communities. Walk through any market or street food hub, and you’ll see women running the show cooking, managing, negotiating, smiling as they serve plates of steaming pad kra pao or mango sticky rice. It’s a society where women are respected and valued, their presence woven into the fabric of daily life in a way that feels both natural and celebrated.

It’s the small things that make Bangkok so welcoming! The smiles, the bows, the hospitality that embraces visitors from around the world. And for me, that’s what makes coming back here such a joy.

What makes Thai food so special

What makes Thai food so special is its history. Thailand was never colonized, so its cuisine evolved on its own terms. It borrowed flavors from neighbors like China, Laos, and Malaysia, but never had to adapt to the tastes of colonizers the way so many other Asian cuisines did. That’s why every bite, right from a humble street-side bowl of boat noodles to the most elaborate royal curry, feels unapologetically Thai. Eating here is like tasting centuries of tradition, untouched yet open to influence, rooted yet adventurous.

My Story

I'm Madhur! Engineer by day, food-obsessed traveler pretty much all the time. If there’s a noodle stand three buses, one ferry, and a tuk-tuk ride away, you bet I’m already on my way.

I’ve traveled to 25+ countries, eaten my way through street markets, tiny family-run cafés, and even worked for a month on a food truck in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean… because why not?

I’m an experiential traveler, which basically means I’ll happily rough it out if it leads to a plate of something unforgettable. Traveling with picky eaters? Not my style. Life’s too short to say no to food with a little mystery!

But no matter how far I wander, India is always at the heart of my travels. I love showing people that there’s so much more to modern India than clichés and stereotypes. We’re a country of a thousand cuisines, countless languages, wild contradictions, and endless warmth. I find myself sharing stories about my life back home, giving people a real glimpse into how we live, dream and EAT.
