Thipsamai - Touted as the best Pad Thai in Bangkok

What to Order: PAD THAI

Rates: 300 THB per person

This place has been making them and acing them since 1939. They serve different types of combinations - with or without noodles, shrimp and egg (in one case the pad thai comes encased in an omlette). But its basically Pad Thai and its basically very good.

The restaurant had classical thai interiors, warm and wooden. The service was excellent. They will probably greet you with a Namastey.

I ordered the Pad Thai Sen Chan - which comes with noodles, shrimp oil, prawns, and egg. The noodles here are thin rice noodles (like vermicelli), called Chan noodles, the shrimp oil came with tiny shrimp which were full of flavor, and 2 big prawns. On the side they serve bean sprouts, banana blossom and pennywort leaves. You also get ground peanuts and lemon juice for adding on as you like, along with a range of sauces and condiments. You can adjust all the ratios as per your preference after having your first taste, they are very open to that. Mix everything up well before diving in!

On first taste I found it a bit too sweet than usual, and very low on heat. May be its because the place has now become very popular with tourists (like me). So I added quite a bit of fish sauce and chilly. The bones of the dish were delicious though, no question on it being touted as the best Pad Thai in Bangkok. Their orange juice deserves a special mention - for people who like their juice pulpy. I visited the place again just to have a bottle of that juice!

Side note - they dont serve any cutlery with the food, you have to be able to eat with chopsticks. Or maybe they do give cutlery if you ask them but it doesnt naturally come with the food nor is it found on any other table.
