Laab Ubon Kontakran - Popular local spot to try Northeastern Thai favorites like Som Tam & Laab

What to Order: Som Tam - Papaya salad, Pork Laab with rice

Rates: 100THB per person

This is a well spread out, lively spot, which mostly specializes in Northeastern Thai food or Isaan cuisine (think raw papaya salad). This cuisine is inspired by Laos, and is less curries, more grilled meats and spicy salads. It also uses a lot of fermented elements. Isaan cuisine is a big part of the Thai food heritage and is a must try when visiting Bangkok.

The top things to try are their lip smacking Som Tam and their Laab, which is essentially spicy and sour minced meat salad served with rice and some vegetables. Laab can be from various meats, but the pork laab is most popular.

The Som Tam will make your eyes water, but its so delicious that you will keep going for more and more. The laab is lemony and herby, and it all feels light and refreshing to eat, even though its ground meat.

The quantities are massive, so go with an appetite. The waitstaff is super friendly and will help you order and recommend things from the menu.
